I-24 |
Interstate 24 (I-24) makes up the majority of a high-traffic
corridor between St. Louis, Missouri, and Atlanta, Georgia. In the state of
Kentucky, Interstate 24 runs from Paducah to the Tennessee border just
northwest of Clarksville. Along its route are many popular tourist and travel destinations,
including Kentucky Dam (which forms Kentucky Lake), Barkley Dam (which forms
Lake Barkley), Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area ("LBL";
under the management of the US Forest Service), and Fort Campbell, home to the
101st Airborne Division and the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment of
the United States Army and named for William Campbell, a United States Army General serving the Union during the Civil War.

Paducah |
Paducah is the county seat of McCracken County, Kentucky, and the hub of the Jackson Purchase region, including Ballard County, Calloway County, Carlisle County, Fulton County, Graves County, Hickman County, Marshall County, and McCracken County, collectively known as the Jackson Purchase. It also serves as the primary urban center for Massac County in Illinois. Paducah is located at the confluence of the Tennessee and the Ohio Rivers, halfway between St. Louis, Missouri, and Nashville, Tennessee, making it one of the nation’s premier locations for river traffic. Twenty blocks of the city's downtown have been designated as an historic district and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated Paducah as the world's seventh City of Crafts and Folk Art. Home to the American Quilters Society (AQS) and the National Quilt Museum, this historic river town offers an authentic cultural experience for visitors from around the globe. Each spring, Paducah becomes a mecca for fiber artists when 30,000 international and domestic quilters make the pilgrimage to attend AQS QuiltWeek. In addition to exhibits of the most exquisite quilts being created today, AQS hosts a variety of special events, a vendor mall with approximately 400 vendor booths and a series of classes and lectures. Each year thousands of quilters participate in the AQS School of Quiltmaking, workshops conducted by world-renowned instructors. The original AQS QuiltWeek event is set apart by competitors, attendees and media attendees from around the world.
